“Don’t confuse having a career with having a life”

I’m in Singapore for a conference so a couple of conference photos as proof – one from each day🤣. If in London you are never more than 20 feet from a rat, in Singapore you are never more than 20ft from a shopping mall! Expert shopping guide to hand we had a little conference shopping at lunchtime and whilst very similar, I am proud that I am stronger than my friend and I did not succumb to any of the “essentials” that she bought, no matter how cute!

If you are afraid of heights then don’t come to Singapore – there is so little ground they build upwards, really upwards. Even the escalators are three storey. After the first day at conference Steven and I went exploring and rode to the top of the Marina Bay Sands. It was less hazy than Wednesday and we could see for miles. This hotel is massive – its like three hotels in one. In the end the best bit about it is its height and shape, views and location. Other than that its just an expensive, glitzy inner city hotel – sorry, that’s our opinion. If we had the money we’d stay at the Fullerton.

After that we went round the Gardens by The Bay – amazing. I loved the Cloud Forest and the Flower Dome. All those sky high walkways – I did well! We were fortunate to be on the outside sky walkway at dusk and then down on the ground for the light show. We did as we were told in Tourist information and lay on the ground and looked upwards. The video of the light show really does not give you the sense of it, and I missed the Harry Potter music on video ☹️

The MRT system and buses are superb. It is a very easy city to navigate, and quickly. For all its modernity and technology, they need to introduce contactless payments for all very soon, or put in more ticket machines at the Tourist MRT stations. We queued for over 15 minutes to buy our tickets. Despite walking 14km and not getting back to my hotel until 21:45 I was still at the conference bright and early this morning, well before my two friends – apparently it’s because I’m a tourist!

P.s. For those that don’t know, the quote is from Hillary Clinton
