We can see the sea!

After the hectic pace of Rome, we have made it to the seaside. Just what we needed. And its wonderful. Sorrento’s quaint narrow streets remind us of Garda. They are so colourful with all the rich porcelain, leather and of course the lemons. I’ve never seen so many oranges and lemons growing on trees in ordinary streets around town. Speaking of colours, the minute we were picked up at Naples station we saw blue and white bunting, streamers everywhere – Shops, houses, statues and monuments. For non-football fans, Napoli are highly likely to win the Scudetto (Series A league) and it could happen tonight if they beat Lazio. So these colours decorate everywhere the entire bay of Naples.

We were enjoying a coffee and a treat, and didn’t realise that our coffee shop was next to an English pub until we heard “Sweet Caroline” and so as I’ve talked about the sounds of Italy previously and so for Sorrento – as beautiful and peaceful as it is, it has to be this song. I was just restrained enough not to join in though!🤣

Yesterday we took a boat trip to Capri. Please bear in mind that I am the only person that was physically sea sick watching Titanic at the cinema so this was extremely brave of me! The crossing from Sorrento is the shortest, but it was “enhanced” with a 1 hour sail around the whole island. So when you see the photos of the close up of the rocks, remember my bravery. Capri is a beautiful island, and we took the advice of our friends to pay for the minibus tour/rides to Capri and Anacapri. This reminded me of whacky races with the narrow roads, the buses needed to “breath in” and shrink to pass each other.

The views are stunning and its interesting to know that even the people that live here require Amazon.

Life is far more relaxed in Sorrento and our hotel is wonderful. We have our own terrace with olive trees, jasmine, huge succulents and palm trees – To see the view from our terrrace, click here.

The hotel is wonderful, with bright coloured ceramic tiles tastefully used in the bedroom and bathroom and throughout the public areas. The shower is the best yet. I don’t and the breakfast (see photo) – it’s healthy! Getting to the hotel is a little adventure with the narrow roads as its on a bend with no pavement on either side for about 20m so crossing the road raises the pulse slightly. Still we’ve survived, and its more than compensated for by the panoramic views and the easy 10 minute walk to town.

Vesuvius and its many moods (weather dependent) dominates part of the landscape. We’ve breakfasted with a wonderful view, although being so close to the sea has its downsides. A seagull landed and snatched someone’s breakfast as they went to get their coffee – must have trained in Whitby.

I’m typing this waiting for our transfer to our final stop, Amalfi. I can’t believe that the time has passed so quickly and that in three and a half days time we’ll be home. Plenty of sunshine to get in before then!

    Love the zebra!
Glad I’m not driving over there – I’d be squealing and shutting my eyes!!!
Have you had some limoncello? Interesting bottle!

I’m glad I’m not driving! Oh yes to limoncello – quite a few in Rome (free after our meal) and here it’s the “Amalfi spritz”. The bottle shape is another “nod” to David that I forgot to mention in my Florence post🤣
