Last time I wrote we were returning from South Africa at the end of a wonderful holiday, with just a hint of the chaos that was to follow. Lockdown was announced five days after our return. The rest, as they say, is history.
We are grateful that we have been so fortunate and emerged relatively unscathed. The world has in many ways returned to normal and opened up again. I’m now of a certain age and recently joined my husband in retirement and we aim to take advantage of this freedom to travel.
We’ve had a few quick breaks and birthday trips abroad in the last twelve months but this is our first proper trip designed for us as a retired couple – that makes us sound so old. Choice was easy. It seems like we are the only couple never to have been to Italy judging by the looks of incredulity as we tell our friends, which is then followed by their proclamation that Italy is one of their favourite places. So now it is time to rectify the travesty that is “actually we have never been to Italy”
Pesach is now over, and after Janine’s 60th Birthday (Happy Birthday Janine) we are going to rectify that as we set off for our three week Grand Tour of virtually all that Italy has to offer i.e carbs, carbs, carbs! The perfect antidote to Pesach . . . .
You can follow us by the map below as there will be a new marker for each new post. You can zoom in and move around to see more details on the map. The round markers are where we stay and the flags (⚑) are day trips. Any marker that is red has a post associated with it, so click on it. Details of day trips may be in the post associated with the place we stay.
These are the individual blog posts if you want to read them from here. They are dated and appear in reverse order i.e the newest first so if you come to this page when there is more than one post, scroll to the bottom to start at the beginning.
